WAIKATO MINERS BALLOT IN FAVOUR OF STRIKE LARGE MAJORITY

Huntly, Wednesday. The result of the ballot taken at the Rotowaro, Glen Afton, Renown ' and the McDonald mines yesterday on the question whether the men would resume work is as follows: — For -strike 218 For work 83 SHORTAGE IN AUCKLAND NOT ENOUGH TO GO ROUND Auckland, Wednesday. As a result of the stoppage of work at four of the six Waikato minos, which ha.vq been idle since April :18, there is a .shortage of coal in Auckland. A dealer stated yesterday that the output from the two mines still in oporation was not sufficient to go round and supplies had been rationed to s ome extent for 10 days. A point had b een reached when many dealers h'ad no Waikato ooal {and others oi^ly enough to supply part of their more urgent orders. Another dealer said that while the shortage affected mainly domestic supplies, a number of industrial us--ers who worked on a more or less hand-to-mouth' hjass/is (were affected in a small degree.
