NO LEGAL CLAIM
PROPRIETOR OF NIGHT CLUB RECEIYES RUDE SHOCK. SEQUEL TO CELEBRATION. The proprietor of a Montparnasse night club has just received a severe shock. A customer and some friends consumed one evenipg f ourteen bottles of ehampagne, for which the bill amounted to £24 10s, and liqueurs charged at £6. The customer failed to pay, and when the proprietor sued him the magistrate declared that he had no legal claim. The extravagant customer, it aftei-wards appeared, had been examined by a mental specialist on the very day of 'his extraordinary "celebration" and pronounced to be a little weak in th'e head. When he and the companions of an hour who had rallied to hi3 side had dealt with the ehampagne and the liqueurs it was discovered th'at he had no money. He was therefore arrested. His wife, on being summoned to the police station, promised to pay at least half the bill. But when the case came into court the magistratq said she neecl not do even that. It was against the law, h'e continued, to sell on credit alcoholic drinks that were to be constimed on the premises. The night club owner .should have obtained payment for one bottle before bpening another.
