PARKING IN SUNLIGHT

Although it is impossible to avoid doing so in some cases, it is advisable not to leave a car parked for any length of time in bright sunlight. The heat of the sun is not so harmful, if it is harmful at all, to the modern cellulose finish as it was to paint, var"nish, and enamel; but ittends to cause the wooden framing of bodies to be affected by the heat transmitted through the metal panels. Even the all-metal bodies of a few years ago have a certain amount of wood in them. Excessive heat will obviously cause the wood to shrink, even before use, and the result may be the development of creaks here and there, to say nothing of the distortion of door and door framings. Park the car in the shade if possible; even though hot sunlight may not harm the body shell, it is not good for the upholstery covering.
