A shallow depression covers the South Island while a deep one has formed over south- p eastern Australia; ' s Forecast: Winds variable at first in the South Island, otherwise north- j Nerly prevailing, moderate to strong j generally, of gale force in places. j Weather: Mainly fair to fine in eastern districts} elsewhere cloudy a'rtd | overcast with rain at times, later j some heavy falls on the west coast j of the South Island. Temperatures mild. I Following are the barometer, maxlmum and minimum thermometer, sun- - shine, and rainfall rea'dings recorded at the Government Observation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Department for the 24 hours snded at 9.30 a.m. yesterday.
