Carterton, Sunday. News was received at Carterton this afternoon that a party of pig. huntersjrle'd hy Mr. Walter Smith, of Woodside; while ' traiiiping at Waidhine' Gorge this morning, '-met the lo'sf tramping -party coming d'own. Mr. Smith and his party | got |the four lost trampers over , the cradle h'ridge acr'oss "the river to the northern side and joihed with the Carterton" Tramping* Club. This party had plenty of food and ren- ' d'erOd all' the aid possible. The whole party went down to the ' resideneS of Mt. Compton,- where they were further cared for. Hector Basset, son of Mr. R. Basset of Woodside, was in charge of the Gorge party. The two parties joined, and he took a message announcing the discovery of the missing trampers to his father at Woodside. Mr. Basset, senior, telephoned Constable Robertson at Carterton, who reported the matter to Sergeant Dyer of Mas- • terton. The lost party was eyidently making their own way out. They had been camped at "Totara Flat. and it took them two days to get from there to where they made contact with the Smith party. They saw the aeroplane on Thursday, but could not attract attention. With the Carterton party there was a trained nurse who rendered the as'sistance required.
