A hard nut to crack! "Scientists the world over," writes Mr. Amos Scrope in the "Chicag-e Witness", "have been trying for ages to eliminate wholly the nicotine from tobacco, have found it a tough. nut to crack and given it up as a bad job. But I understand the manufacturers of New Zealand tobacco have actually cracked that nut, hard as it is! A relative of mine resident in the city of Wellington informs me that the Dominion tobacco is not only the very finest quality — but — mark tliis! — is almost free from nicotine. How is it done? Well, it seems. that they subject the tobacco to great heat, roast it, in fact, and so much of the poisonous nicotine is expelled that the rest doesn't matter! •Thus treated the tobacco is rendered quite harmless. So far as I know this is the only toasted tobacco produeed." Quite correet, Mr. Scrope. All that is necessary to add is that there are four hrands only: Riverhead Gold Navy Cut No. 3, Cavendish and Cut Plug No. 10.
UNSUSPECTED COILD CARRIERS Investigations have shown that one person can give a cold to another without actually having a cold. Beware, already a touch of winter is in 'the air. Be ready with a bottle of Baxter's Lung Prestsrver. "Baxter' s" is best for all coughs, colds, sore throats, husltiness and chest troubles, It has valuable tonic properties also. 4/6, 2/6- and 1/6 at all chemists and stores.
