SCHOOL YEAR

ANNUAL MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS HELD HEADMASTER'S REPORT At a householders' meeting held at the O.D.H.S. on Monday evening for the purpose of electing a sehool committee Mr. E. Payne was elected to the chair and the following were elected as members of the sehool committee for the ensuing year: Messrs A. E. Payne (chairman), R. Semple (treasurer), A. Debreceny (secretary), W. Andrews, C. Pipe, F. Cave, J. Mansell, T. Steele, W. Burrett. After the adoption of the chairman's and headmaster'3 reports, the meeting resolved to igive its wholehearted .support to the Auckland Primary Sehool Committees' Association in its effort to have the sehool entrance age reduced to five years. Headmaster's Report In the course of hi3 annual report, the headmaster, (Mr. F. G. Kibblewhite) stated, inter alia: — "The roll at present is 297 with an average attendance for this term of 272.7 which is 8 lower than is required to keep the present staff of ten assistants three of whom are in the High Sehool. "The work of the sehool and the progress of the pupils have been considerably hampered by the continual change of teachers. Only four classes had the one teacher for the whole year. This is causing most serious results to the detriment of the children's work. "The grounds are in good order and were favourably commented on by the visiting inspectors. The tscheme of ground improvements is being pushed ahead as the chance presents itself. "The children are being well catered for in the mattei* of sport. Thig is especially iso in the High Sehool De.partment. The supply of sports material is always quite an item and donations of footballs or basketballs are always very welcome. Excellent results were obtained in swimming; the sports held at the end of the season being great success. I have to thank the Herbert Smith Trust for the donation of four silver cups and Mr. G. S. Moody for the donation of two silver cups for the 'swimming championships. "I wish to offer my thanka to the committee for the very willing assistance given during the year; it has greatly helped in the efficient running of the sehool, to the staff for their loyal and patient work; to the parents and citizens in Opotiki for their generou^' co-operation in (all sehool functions held during the year."
