QUESTION OF SITE

RESERVES COMMITTEE BRINGS DOWN REPORT TO COUNCIL POSITION AT AERODROME The Reserves Committee tabled the following report on a new site for the Whakarewarewa Native Sehool at last evening's meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council. - "The committee has considered the request from the Director of Education that portion of the aerodrome area should be made available to the Education Department as a site for the native sehool, and recommend: "(a) That no portion of the southwestern corner of the area should be made available, as any future exten- ( sion of ihe runways must be in that j direetion . on aceount of the prevail- 1 ing winds. j " (b) That as the only satisf actory i site for a sehool from the point of view of the best use of the aerodrome is in the south-east corner of the area, adjacent to Sala Street and Forestry Avenue, and in consequence of the provisions of Order-in-Council of February 15, 1932, vesting the control of the reserve in the council, the Director of Education be advised that he should make application to the Minister of Lands. "The vesting Order-in-Council provides, inter alia: — "The Minister of Lands may at any time, upon giving one month's notice in writing, resume such portion of the aerodrome site reserve estimated to contain 8 acres, approximately, and being the south-eastern corner of • Section 80, Rotorua suburbs, as may be required for road of railway purposes, without payment of any compenaation whatsoever. " (•&)' That the Minister of Lands be requested, if he approves of handing over to the Education Department the area in question, to make the following conditions: — "(1) That the area to be used for the sehool site should be triangular in shape, as small as possible to meet the requirements of the sehool and xiot more than six acres in extent. "(?> That any buildings erected be kept as olose as possible to the streets mentiomMi above. "Co,i That no high-growing trees be pianted on the west or north boundavie- of the area, so that the effective i!-e of the aerodrome will not be intexfered with." After some discussion the council decided to alter the area recommended hom six to eight acres and the venort was otherwise adopted.
