They have perf ormed good work and the roajds are in good ofder. Th'e muster of returned soldiers at the Anzac Day parade was a good one, over 100 men turning out. Praetica'lly every unit in the N.Z.E.F. was" represented' as well as Australian, Cahadian, Imperial and South African forces. Juriior Chess Players At the annual meeting of the Rotorua Chess Club on Monday even:ing, it was decided that free memhership fdr one year be given to anysboy or girl under twenty years of age who is interested in chess. Tuition will be given to such members, and every encouragement for them to qualify for match play. Lighting a School At the annual meeting of Otoroa householders held on Monday evening, discussion took place on the possibility of providing lighting in the school building. It was finally decided that a report should be prepared for the next meeting of the ' committee. Otoroa School Committee A well attended meeting of householders was held at Otoroa on Monday evening for the purpose of electing a school committee for the ensuing twelve months. Th'e following mem- ' bers were elected. — Mr. A. O. D'ibley (ehairman), Mrs. W. Bransen, Messrs. W. P. Robinson, C. H. Robinson, and W. Gilchrist. Bunfeering a Golf Course On Monday evening the executive of the Motutara Golf Club appointed _ a sub-committee to confer with the distriet manager, Tourist Department, 'Mr. L. J. Bayfeild, in connection with the bunkering of Ihe tourse. The committee were also empowered to fix local rules for the course compatible with the present uncompleted nature of the lay-out. Successful Swimming Coach At a meeting of the Auckland swimming centre, the splendid work achieved by Mr. D., B. Anderson, in teaching the young members of thfe Blind Institute to swim was the subject of much favourable comment by the ehairman and members. The centre passed a vote of appreciatio'n to Mr. Anderson who is a well-known Auckland professional coach, for the

excellent results he has obtained, indicating that the teaching of swimming ifrespective whether the instructor is amateur or professional is a matter for public appreciation. Waltzing Gortipetition The waltzing competition held recently at Dixieland proved a great at- • triacton, many competitors coming , from outlying districts in order t6 compete The competition b'rought forward high class dancers, and favourable eomments were passed by all in general. A further competition under special conditions will comnience on Wednesday, April 26, this being the evening of the first-heat, and the three following: heats will he run off on Mondiay, May 1, Wednesday, 3rd, and Monday, May 8. Winners and runners up of each heat retire until the final, which takes place on Wednesday, May ' 10. A handsome cash prize is offered.
