WEDNESDAY'S DRAWS

NOTES ON ROTORUA CLUB'S SATURDAY ECLECTIC MATCH MANY VISITING PLAYERS A lange number of players in Saturday's eclectic match were deterfed by weather and others were unable, for other reasons to complete their two cards, the essential of the eompetition. The average of scores was disappointing, only three players returning cards under 80 gross. They were M. Carr; 73; E. Carr, 77; G. Pott, 79. The next best gross cards were E. Fenton, 80; Barker, 81 and 82. McElroy, Worthington and Empen, 82, and Anderson and Wilkie, 83. There is nothing in the scores indicating the need of the handicapper's earnest consideration, the winner having been attended to prior to the second round. The additional impost does not take effect during the currency of a match. • Though the course has a par value 'of 69 set upon it, it is remarkable that though hundreds of cards — some of them by the Dominion's crack performers — are handed in, par remains almost impregnable. There is always trouble about for a loose shot in a medal round. Against that, for one holers, the course is pre-eminent, no less than three being recorded last week. A Maungakekie player, Lawrie, performed the act at the ninth, and 01sen, of Auckland, and our own McCormick at the sixth. Visiting Players Following on the closing stages of the Auckland provincial tournament, large crowds of golfers visited Rotorua. Since Api'il 15, some 250 players have recorded their names in the club book, and it is safe to say that everyone of them gave the course and 'its appointments the highest praise. The greens and fairways are in splendid condition and will be perfect for the ladies' open golf championship which opens on May 16. The holder of the open title is Mrs. Ferguson, of Auckland. In spite of the depres'sion a big entry list is anticipated. Errata. — On Saturday last, the name of a Wednesday player was given as Innes, it should have been Jones. The mistake occured owing to the incurable habit of the writer making his I's J's and vice-versa.
