GRAVE FEARS FOR SAFETY Masterton, Tuesday. The search for the missing trampers in the Tararuas is being redoubled. S'ix parties are now operating on this side of the range, as follows: At Mt. Holdsworth, at Mangatarera Valley, on the south side of the Waingawa River, at Mitre Flat, at the headwaters of the Waingawa River and on the Blue Range. In addition, another party is proceeding this afternoon to investigate smoke seen on the banks of the Ruamahanga River near Mt. Bruce. A permanent base camp is to be established on Mitre Flat. The weather shows signs of improvement, the rain having ceased, although it is still cold. The ranges are visible to-day for the first time for over a week. This should enable more satisfactory progress to be accomplished as hitherto search operations have been greatly hampered on account oi weather conditions which were as bad as they could be. Grave fears are entertained as to the fate of the missing party on account of the wild weather accompanied by snow and rain.
