OTARA NOTES

WOMENS' INSTFfUTE A well-attended mecting of the Otara Women's Institute was held in the Jockey Club's rooms on Wednesday. Mrs. lvlorrice presided. After reciting the Women's Creed and singing the Institute's song, general business was dealt with, three new members being elected. Mrs. A. Debreceny gave an address on Federation matters, and the Federation's recent successful meeting held in Opotiki. She also made the members fully aware of the benefits avail-' able to th'em at the institute's rest home at the Mount (Tauranga). A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker. A popular itern cxchange of 6d parcels, was then held, the eontents of the packets proving to be j both amusing and of good value. Mrs. ' G. S. Earp won a prize for having pro- I vided the biggest value in her packet, and the institute's funds were appreciably increased. Mrs. S. McMillan and Mrs. S. White staged a humorous sketch, "The Hostess' Husband," for which they were heartily applauded. A Roll Call of suggestions for future programmes proved helpful to the committee. A xeport of the recent flag 500 evening held at Mrs. H. Appleton's returned £2 13s 2d toward the institute's funds. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Appleton, Millar and W. Lowe. An interesting meeting was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anfchem.
