VISITORS' AFTERNOON SOGIAL AFTERNOON TENDJ3RED TO WOMEN'S INSTITUTE DELEGATES. ENJOYABLE FUNCTION. (From Our Own Correspondent) A social afternoon was tendered to the visiting delegates -of the Bay of Pienty Women's Institutes on Thursdayl afternoon. • . A humorous .sketeh was igdven entitled "The Hostess' Hushand." Mrs. S MeMillan and Mrs. S. .v/hite were the two chanacters A solo, "Keep on Hoping," hy Miss B. Kelly, was enthusiastically encored, and "Believe . Me" was contributed in response. During the afternoon the Mayoress, Mrs. J. T. Thompson, welcomed the visitors and expressed her favourahle opinion of the Women's Institute movement. She mentioned the very soeiable afternoon and stated that it was an opportunity of meeting other women and of ohtaininig new ideas. • Two ladies demonstrated knitting from the fLeece, a very interesting performance Mrs.- A E Martin -represented the W.D.F.U., Mrs. T. Steele the Plunket Society, Mr-s J. Baird thte |0potiki •Girl Guide Committee, land Mrs. A. P. Stuart the Opotiki Sunshine League The W.D.F.U. asked the Women's Institute to communicate with their branches if there were cases in the towns where women needed assistance in their homes. The W.D.F.U. considered it their duty to see into these matters. After afternoon tea, the function wa.s hrought to a close.
