" ■ This pupging of the signatures f educes the number of effeetive signatures- on the petition to 255 — 18 Iess than the numher actually required, for the purposes of enforeing a poll. . !Of the 374 signa.tories, 62 had Iess than the requisita three months qualification, and had not applied .for r'egistration on the munieipal roll, while a further 25 had fulfilled the residential qualifications, but had not made appiieation for registration; In addition to these, five signatures were those of old Rotorua residents wh'O had only recently returned after an absence of some years and had not re-applied for enrolment. A further ■ nine were those of minors, who- afe not qualified to register, four were dupiicates of signatures already bn the roll, 13 were: not resident withiii the bofougb', and one was, decehsed since signing'the petition. • ' As a result of the. voi'ding bf these signatures, ,a poll will 'accordingly not be held, and the existing statutory Wednesday half holiday will remain in fofce. _
