TRANSPORT
GISBORNE FARMERS FEAR HANDICAP FROM RESTRICTIONS. RELIANCE ON ROAJDS. j Reference to transport matters is made in the annual report of the Poverty Bay and East Coast Sh'eepowners' Union, as follows: "Your executive is against the istrictunes dmposed by the Transport Control Act and by the xegulations passed thereunder. We are entirely dependent in this district on motor transport and we look with trepidation on any measures that may tend to restrict the carriage of goods. Although representations have been made from the exemption of this district from the operations of the Act, w& fear that there is very little chance of our request being favourably considered. We are also of the opinion, if we are unable to obtain exemption, that this distiict should be controlled by a separate board and should not be operated from Napier as at present. We have joined with the Chamber of Commerce in pressing our demands in this direction and trust that, in this matter we will receive moie favourable conisideration.
