TOURIST TRAFFIC
"Post.")
RESULTS FOR YEAR FALL BELOW TOTAL EXPECTED • RESTRICTED LOCAL VISITS
(Special to
Wellington, Saturday. Although Australia has contributed well to the tourist traffic this year the visits from America have. been ^ disappointing says the general manager of the Tourist Department, Mr. G; w. Clinkard. The movement of local tourists hds also fallen off, but there were definite reasons for this. The depression had prevented many from undertaking extensive tours during the past year, while owners of motor cars were extending the practice of going away on tours and taking camping outfits. Mr. Clinkard referred to the- use being made by the sGovernment . of • films, which were being widely distrj* buted. He said New Zealand Government films were having an exeellent reception both in Australia and else- ' where. Revenue from their exhibition offset the cost of production. A number of films had been sent to the High Commissioner in London, and they had been most - favourably received in the United Kingdom.
