MANY JEWS FLEE
WAGNER STATUE DESECRATED Rec. April 2, 5.5 p.m. Berlin, April 1. Some Jews posted notices such as "I served four years in the front lines. This is my reward." "We Jews helped pay for the unemployed." Nazis entered a bank where Herr Eindin kept a deposit of £1500 which they confiscated. Nazis at Nuremberg arrested customers of Jews as enemies of the State. The Polish Consul's .intervention prevented the boycott of Polish Jews at Breslau. It is now becoming almost impossible for Jewish professional men to earn a living in Germany. Jewish barristers in Berlin will in future, be limited to 30. Hitherto they numbered 2000, out of 36,000 in professions. Hundreds of Jews have fled from the country, especially doctors, scientists, actors and artists. Herr Streieher, leader of antiSemitism, says that messages from abroad suggest that it will be unnecessary to resume the boycott. Wagngi^s statue at Munich was descretated, because his second wife was a Jewess. The wreath was burned and the statue blackened by flames. Dense crowds in Cologne and other Rhineland towns suggested that the populace hold a holiday to watch the boycott working. It was generally intended that no Jew should be overlooked. Few risked the threat of being filmed and exhibited at cinemas as they entered Jewish shops. Nevertheless, Gentiles profited little. Housewives will probably flock to Jewist firms on Monday in accordance witk the custom.
