MAJESTIC THEATRE
TO-NIGHT. _ In "Private Lives," wbich opens touigbt at the Majestic Theatre, Norma Shearer and Robert Montgomery exhibit a multitud'e of reasons why mar;ried folk should scrap. This picturisation of the Noel Goward stage success is by far the breeziest and most delightful offering the •screen has given us this seaision. It is breath-tabing in racy tempo and moves to an hysterical climax on the fleet wings of -sparkling dialogue and a zestful plot that packs. laughs in every flicker. As Amanda, the wife who discards her husband for another, more for spite than anything else, Miss Shearer achievas the finest portrayal in farce we have beheld :sdnce the advent of talkies. She has always shown considerahle promise along these lines, but the present vehicl'a proves beyond 'all conjecture h'er' adroitness in" this type of role. Montgomery, as OElyot, who| also weds again, only to repent without much leisure, is splendid an4 matches her skill with a cyclonic p'erformance. Reginald Denny, Una Merkel, Jean Herisiholt land George Davis round out fhsa brilliant cast assembled by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer for this picture.. From start to finish' the picture is either a fight or a miss, and the climax where the elopers battle almost unto death ds the most hilarious we have witnessed' in a long time. If at times it seems to approach the lapstick it is only because Miss Shearer and Montgomery had to exert every physical means. to further the swift pace they started. The isettings are highl-y picturesque and after the ladies behold Miss Shearer in her Alpine togs we predict a rush of visitors to Mt. Cook next s'easOn,
