BRITISH IMPORTERS CONSIDER ; REST1RICTIONS ARE INEVITABLE LIMITAiTION OF SUPPLIES

— By Telegraph— -CoT-yrlght).

(Rec. March 29.) London, March' 28. A joint meeting of Australian iand New Zealahd butter importei^ disJ cussed the crisiis. in .regard to the future prospeets. It was the opinion of the meeting that "uhder the existing conditions an improvement in the prices of dairy produce cannot he expeeted until imports are redueed." The discussion revealed a very definite opinion iaihong traders that restrictions or limitations are inevitable if the industry is to be saved from ruin, and the promptest action in Australiia and New Zealanfi is necessary. The importers feel that the produeers eannot have realiised that limitation would not cause them seriouis- hardship, as based on the 1932-3 record season limitation would prevent foreign dumping. It is understood the British Government fully sympathises with the Dominion producers, hut its h'ands are tied by existing agreements ,rendering it impossihle to make 'any hetter proposals to the Dominions than it has done. The whole question is now in the Dominion producers' hands, and the importers are awaiting the outcome with extreme anxiety. Meanwhile the delay i's practically paralysing business. To-day's price of New Zealand salted was 68s to 70s, and Australian 66s to 68s.
