A SHIPPING JUBILEE
N.Z. TRADE IS CONCERNED. On Januai*y 1, 1933, the Shaw Savill and Albion Company celebrated the 50th anniversary of the amalganxation of the Shaw Savill Company with the Albion Line. The men wh'Q gave their nanies to the former were Walter Savill and R. E. Shaw, who set up in business in the year 1859, chartering ships for the New Zealand trade. In the 1880's it was determined to form a limited liability company by 'arrangement with Patrick Henderson, of Glasgow, who owned th'e Albion Line. By that time sail was rapidly losing importance and the joint concern pinned their faith on steam. The comhined comp'anies started their real work with the heginning of the year 1883, and, almost pUecisely 50 years later, disp'atched on h'er first voyage to 'New Zealand the reconstructed ship Akaroa, formerly the Euripides.
