TENANTS' AMAZING ESCAPE

CHIMNEY CRASHES ON ROOF. Amazing escapes v/ere had hy 54 people at Gateshead, England, while the majority of. them were in hed. A chimney stack erashed through the roof of a tenement. A man and his wife were -trapped in their hedroo-m until rescued by policemen and firemen. Several of the residents insisted on returning to their homes to collect their belongings and while they were doinig so there was another fall which resnlted in two men heing trapped. Firemen .and policemen again had to carry out rescue work with great difficulty. The tenement had been condemned, but the tenants had had no place to go.
