Farmers and Feed. The autumn weather has been so mild tp date that there is an unusual amount of feed about. In forrner seasons many of the farmers had to commenee eutting into their supplie? of autumn feed at the middle of March but this year it has not as yet been found necessary and in some cases farmers around Rotorua are talcing off their third cut of hay. Deer Stalking Parties. Reports from deer stalking parties state that in the Tarawera area thestags have started roaring alrcady. This is very early in the season. A party of stalkers left at an early hour this morning to put in the week-end aftcr deer in the Tarawera reg:cn. Director Satisfied. Satisfaction with the condition of the pastures on the Ngakuru settlement was expressed by the Director of the Agricultural Department Plant Research Station at Palmerston North (Dr. A. H. Cockayne) who recently paid a short visit to'the Rotorua district. It is anticipated that during the coming season, upwards of 1000 cows will be carried on the Ngakuru bloc'ks. Cattle Tick Boundaries It is understood that considerable alterations are proposed in the cat-tle-tick boundaries for the Rotorua district. During the winter imonths, the cattle tick lies dormant and there is therefore no necessity for inspection so that there will be no immediate necessity for the alterations. It* is understood, however, that in preparation for the changes which will be made, two erossing keepers who previously acted as. inspectors, have been dispensed with. Sheep En Route. One of the last of the several large mobs of sheep which are being brought from the East Coast districts for the Maori settlement schemes in the Rotorua district is at present en route and consists_ of approximately 3000 head. Badly Needed The Rotorua Police Station dwelling house is receiving a much-needed coat of paint. The courthouse could also do with attention. It seems bad policy for the Government to allow public buildings to deteriorate when so many workless tradesmen would be glad of an opportunity for employiment. Death of Millhand. A man named Daniel Smith, who "Tor the last seven years had been employed as a blacksmith by the Taupo-Totara Timber Co. at Mokai, was brought into King Geonge V. Hospital at 1.10 o'clock on Friday morning suffering from severe illness. He died within a few hours of his admission. A medical certificate is forthcoming that his death was from natural causes and ,an inquest- will not be necessary. So far as can be ascertained the deceased has no relatives in New Zealand. Entertaining Jardine's Men. The Rotorua Cricket Association, to do honour to the English Cricket team, has arranjged a dance in the Pohutu Kiosk, Whakarewarewa on Wednesday, March 29th. Invitations and tickets may be obtained at the "Morning Post" office. Mr. A. T. Donnelly president of the N.Z. Cricket Council is accompanying. the team which will leave Christchurch next Monday :arriving in Wellington on Tuesday morning where it will be met by a fleet of cars which will be specially sent through from Rotorua by the K. Motor Company. The party will then proeeed in easy stages to the Chateau Tongariro iand after a brief stay there will come on to Rotorua where they are due to arrive on Wednesday afternoon. Assistance Promised In response to a request from the Rotorua Dental Clinic Committee, the Auckland Commercial Travellers Association has intimated that it will shortly consider the question of arranging a concert in Rotorua in assistance of the committee's funds. During the past few months the task of adequately hnancmg the clinic has been a difficult one for the committee. Progress of Show Building. A commencement with the work of roofing the new show building for the Rotorua A. and P. Association in Fenton Street was commenced this week and with the completion of this work, the heaviest portion of the contract will have been carried out. The contract has still some weeks to run. Ilelping Distressed Families. Members of the Rotorua Women's Club and Relief Workers' Association committees were busily occupied distributing clothing and other articles to distressed families at ' a temp'orary depot in Fenton Street yesterday. The room was littered with all manner of articles which had been donated by owners who had no further use for them. Although the total distribution was heavy the number of articles sent out, could not be obtained last evening. Broken Appointments. The fact that although many appointments were made during February, few were kept, was reported to the Rotorua Dental Clinic last week by the dental nur,se, Miss D. Hall. In order that the correct sequence may be kept it is necessary that parents ensure attendance of j their children to avoid the possibility of any one case being left unfinished. Dental Clinic. In her report to the Rotorua Dental Clinic committee, the Dental nurse, Miss D. Hall gave the following statistics of dental operations pferformed during the p'eriod December to February: — December 169, January 40, February 325.
