GOLF SEASON

ANNUAL REPORT SHOWS CLUB'S POSITION SOUND. IMPROVEMENTS TO COURSE. The annual report of the Rotorua Golf Club, which is to be placed before members at the annual meeting on Wednesday next, shows la sound financial position and steady progress in all departments save a reduction in green fees, and in subscriptions and entry fees. However, the exoess of income over expenditure is over £500„ and the accumulated funds are close npon £5000. The annual report runs ias follows: Receipts. — Green fees show a decrease of £53 9s 8d, compared with last year, this in view of the times, g'ives better results than anticipated. The subscriptions ,and entrance fees decreased by £39 12s 6d. Finance. — The excess of income over expenditure for the year is £515 14s lOd. The accumulated fund stands at £4811 17s. ld. Improvements. — The erection of shelter shed at the 9th, the rebuilding of the professional's premises, and the erection of front line fence were carried out in the early part of the season. Mr. C. H. Redhead kindly undertook (gratuitously) to supervise the building and bunkering of No. 8 green, also the re-forming of No. 10 tee. The committee tender their thanks to him for this work. Membership. — Membership for the past season totals 335. Ladies: Ordinary members, 135; non-playing, 15; absentees, 20; country, 9; juniors, 8; total 182. Men members. Life, 6; hon, life, 2; ordinary, 90; non-playing, 16; absentee, 17; country, 21; juniors, 1; total, 153. Twenty-four new lady and 10 men members were elected. Tour naments . — N inety- six entries. were received for the Open Amateur Tournament, held on August 23, 24, 25, and 26. George Tallis (Titirangi) won the Ghampionship, the runner-up being F. Fryer (Napier). The Thermai Cup was won by J. F. Murray (Titirangi), the runner-up being G. Napier (Whakatane) . Veteran Tournament, — This popular event on handicap was held on August 30, 31, and September 1; 57 entries

were received. The Cup was won by C. H. Redhead, the runner-up being H. B. Lusk. The Seeretary'ts Cup was won by J. T. Pavitt (New Plymouth). Staff. — The thanks of the club are again given to the staff for their loyal and efficient service during the year. Committee Meeting Attendances. — During the year 12 meetings were held, the attendances being: President, 12-; Captain, 12; R. C. Smith, 9; W. T. Pakes, 6; A. Walden, 9; T. Kelly, 12; E. Barker, 8; H. Hamilton, 8; E. Fenton, 11; C. M. Young, 8; E. iRoe, 9. The whole of the officers and committee are retiring with the exception of H. Hamilton, C. M. Young and E. Fenton, and are eligible for re-elec-tion.
