RIFLE SHOOTING

Our Own Correspondent.)

B.O.P. CHAMPIONSHIPS ANNUAL COMPETITION HELD ON ST. PATRICK'S DAY. MEETING AT THORNTON.

(From

The -annual competition between the Defence Rifle Clubs situated in the Bay of Plenty was iheld on the Rangitaiki Club's range at Thornton on St. Pa.trick's iDay. The weather was fine> but there was a tricky wind blowing up the range, which made shooting difficult espec-' ially at 600 yards. Five clubs took part in the event including the newly formed Kati Kati Rifle Club, fully 60 men competing. Each' club was permitted to shoot ten men, the seven highest scores to count, the winners to hold the shield for the ensuing year. In conjunction with this there was also the Opotiki Ohallenge Sttar jfor teams of four men aside. This competition created a lot of interest. The shooting was of a high standard considering the wind. H. Oliver of Tauranga was top with 96 including a possible at 500 yards range. He was closely followed by Mrs. Moore who compiled 95 with a 48 at the 600 yards and was unfortunate in registering an inner for her last shot which spoilt her chance of having her name entered on the shield as top scorer. Rangitaiki retained the shield with the excellent score of 639, Tauranga was second with 630, Opotiki third with 603, Whakatane next with 577 and Kati Kati with 553.
