ELEVEN MAORIS STRUCK OFF REGISTER BY INSPECTOR

Justification for complaints that the unemployment schemes are being abused by numbers of Maoris has been established in Waimana district as the result of a visit by unemployment inspectors. The investigation showed that 11 Maoris who were employed on relief work have land which can be farmed. These natives have been struck off the unemployed register. One of the Maoris in question was found to be milking 15 cows and sending cream to factories in different parts of the district.
