DEADLY GAS TESTS
WOMAN DOCTOR'S WORK. A young woman research worker, Dr. Esther M. Killick, of Leeds, University, England, who is conducting ; experiments on the effects of carbon 1 monxoide gas, has subjected her self j to an atmosphere containing the gas. Describing h'er work to ihe Midland Institute of Mining Engineers at Sheffield reeently, Dr. Killick said she experimented with canaries and mice. : In detecting dangerous concentrations of carbon monoxide in mines and other : places canaries were slightly more • sensitive. • The fact that animals cc-uld develop ■ a tolerance for the gas suggested the possdbility of development of similar tolerance in man. The gas, she said, on first application caused a severe headache, but failed to produce any symptoms of i poisofiing in later experiments, after the subject had at intervals of a week inhaled progressively inci:eased volumes o^ the gas.
