Melbourne, Mai'Ch 4. Victoria opened their innings against the M.C.C. side this morning. The weather was warm but threatening\ Runs came freely, 30 runs being scored in 30 minues. Rigg v/as nicely caught at square-leg by Verity, fielding for Allen, who was suffering from a strained side. F.igg batted neatly for 34 minutes, when the score was one wicket for 46. A cool change in the weather occurred with rain. At a quarter to one play was suspended, and as rain fell continuously the captains deeided at 2.30 p.m. that there should be no fu.vfcher play today. O'Brien (16) and Darling (6) are the not-out men. Scores : — i England, first innings 321 Victoria — First Innings O'Brien, not out 16 Rigg, c Verity (sub), b Bowes 21 Darling, not out 5 Extras 5 Total for one wicket 48
