Rec. Feb. 28. Sydney, February 27. England won the fifth test with eight wickets in hand thus drawing level on the aggregate number of games won by the two countries — 51. The game continued in muggy weather before an attendance of 5000. . The wicket was worn at one end on which Alexander operated. Iromnonger bowled from this end and made the ball rise awkwardly. Jardine mis-hit one into slips and Leyland was bowled round his legs when trying* to play the ball with his pads. Ironmonger's figures were then two for eight runa and he had bowled 11 overs including eight maidens. . Wyatt arid Hammond watched the hall very closely and runs came slowly. Hammond, at lunch, had taken 42 minutes to make 11 runs 1 and Wyatt's 29 had occupied 115 minutes. There were two-thrills after lunch, the first when O'Reilly bowled Wyatt with a no-ball and the second when Hammond lifted O'Reilly among the spectators. in the stand for six and tlien lifted two more high to the boundary. Ironmong'er was spelled after bowling 22 consecutive overs, but the others held no terrors for Hammond and Wyatt. The former reached 50 in 92 minutes while Wyatt brought up his half century in 122 minutes. Both b-itsmen then proceeded to open their s'houlder, some of Hammond's drives heing really brilliant. The match was over by tea. Neither Wyatt nor Hammond gaye any chances and at the finish were definitely on top of the bowling. Hammond made the winning stroke when he lifted Lee .over the boundary for six.
