GRAVE CHARGE AGAINST U.S. AMBASSADOR TO BRITAIN GIGANTIC CLAIM FILED

Rec. Feb. 28, 7 p.m. Washington, February 27. Mr. Andrew Mellon, Ambassador to Britain and former Secretary of the Treasury and two officials of the Internal Revenue Bureau are named as the defendants in a 220,000,000 dollar suit (approximately £44,000,000 at par) and are charged with alleged connivance with officers of foreign steamship companies to evade just income tax, The papers allege that Mr. Mellon not only failed to collect 100,000,000 dollars in delinquent taxes from foreign steamship interests, but placed the Government in such a position that it was eompelled to refund the suni of 10,000,000 dollars to the companies. The identity of the companies is not disclosed, but the persons named with Mr. Mellon are Mr. David Blair, one time Commissioner of Internal Revenue, and Mr. Alexander Gregg, former acting-Consul to the Bureau. The suit was filed in the Supreme Court by Mr. David Olsen, who re~ cently resigned as investigator for the Senate Stock Embargo Enquiry Commission.
