PROFITABLE BUSINESS
INSURANCE IRISKS QN MOTOR BUSES IS VERY SMALL. It is sometimes asked if there is a profitable line of business anywhere to-day. Here is one; — There are 1222 motor omnibuses in New Zealand, each of which carrie® a policy with a maximum cover of £20,000 with an average premium of £25 annually. The claims under those policies, 1927 to 1932, have been estimated at under £1000. The motor omnibus, contrary to the usually accepted idea, is one of the safest risks in the world, shatters the old complacent notion that progress 'and improvement had become an established law of Nature and that the spread Of education was bound to lead to a steady decrease of crime. The fact is that a section of the yOunger generation has been thoroughly corrupted by the enforeed. idleness which h'as resulted from prolonged economic depcression. The moro re'ckless and adventurous are allured by the special opportunities in crime which modern city life offers, and the ceaseless economic and political attacks on property and capitalism as> theft must have contributed to the new rnass production of criminals.
