At the close of section play the following was the position of teams: ^fe^.lL&dbr#ri . ;
Final Game The final between Hardie Neil and M. Walker (Auckland), E. Fowkes and Hopwood (West End), saw Walker take an early lead, Hardie Neil playing a good leading game. In the flrst head Hardie Neil drew the shot on to the jack and also ylaced a second which Fowkes rested out, leaving Auckland one up. Fowkes trailed out Hardie Neil's shot in the second head, Hopwood playing a toucher, giving him two. Walker however, rested ,the head for second leaving Hepwood one upon the head. In the third head Hardie Neil scored a toucher for shot and rested his first for two. Walker left the position unchanged making the score, Walker 3, Hopwood 1. Although still leading beautifully, Fowkes beat Hardie-Neil for shot •vhich Walker rested out. With a fine iraw Hopwood got the shot but Walker recovexed with a rest giving him one on the head.
In the next Hardie-Neu drew the shot which Fowkes removed, Hax'dieNeil resting between for second. An ' anlucky wick by Hopwood trailed the jack to Walker's back wood but a rest by Ahe lastnamed returned the advantage to Hopwood giving him one. • The sixth head saw Fowkes leading badly while Hardie-Neil placed two and Walker drew a like number of counters placing him four up on the head. With Walker layi^ig two up on the next Hopwood drove'to take both out leaving him two up. Walkex*, however, drew a fine second, making the score Walker 8 Hopwood 3. Good drawing by Fowkes in the eighth gave Wesit End two while Hopwood added a third placing him within striking distance of his opponent. With Hardie-Neil's play now deteriorating, Fowkes drew three counters but a beautiful draw by Walker with his last cut them out and gave him the shot. I In the tenth Hopwood had two on
the jack and two unsuccessful drives by Walker saw the first go through the gap and the second strike a block. Walker 9, Hepwood 9 Hopwood scored another ixx the eleventh Ixead and on the next Walker trailed "kitty" to his back wood for two, again placing hixxx one in the lead. Fine drawing by Fowkes in the devil's round gave him two counters, and apart from Hopwood resting a third, bad drawing by the skips saw the position unchanged at the end of the head. Hopwood 13, Walker 31. Fowkes and Hardie-Neil drawing alternate shots, Hardie-Neil placed his last on the jack to give Auckland two, Walker increased this to four with his first two bowls, but Hopwood took one out with a drive. A block placed by Walker with his third frustrated Hopwood's drive which gave Walker three 011 the head. Resting out Fowke's shot in the fifteenth head, Hardie-Neil gave Walker three which the lastnamed increased to a "possible" by three beautiful draws. Walker 20, Hopwood 13. On the sixteenth, Hardie-Neil signalled the success in the last head by improved drawing, and found a good lie on the jack, Fowkes drawing second shot. Hopwood's drive missing, Walker scored one. Hardie-Neil again drew the shot in the next head, Fowkes allowing too much green. Walker drew second and third while Hopwood failed with his last to alter the position. With West End lying three Walker burnt the eighteenth, and scored two on the next after drawing two with his last bowls, which Hopwood failed to remove with a drive. The game ended on the nineteenth head (after FowRes removed one of two counters- placed by Hardie-Neil, giving Walker a further one. Walkerj 27, Hepwood 13
