MONKEY HUNT

DOPED BANANAS END FROLIC NEAR PARIS. , Paris, Saturday. I A monkey hunt, which began in : the Bois de Boulogne in Paris, ended 1 ha.ppily among the houses in the sub- | urb of Neuilly. Some time ago ten monkeys escaped from th'eir cage in j the zoo, and set out on a wild frolic j among the trees, to the great alarm I of peaceful strollers, who found themj selves pelted with. twigs hy the chat- ; tering animals. Swinging* from tree ; to tree, the monkeys travelled in a lawless hand from end to end of the wood, scorning the most tempting ! morsels of food. T,he animals obtained sufficient nourishment by foraging among the houses of Neuilly. Whole dinners vanished as though by a miracle from kitchens in the Neuilly neighbourhood. and sometimes a chattering group would be seen gathered round chim-ney-stacks enjoying peaehes, nuts, and hananas which had heen destined for other mouths. The entire tribe of monkey bandits wa« recaptured hy a ruse. Nuts and ordina'ry enticements had failed until one of the keepers of the zoo conceived the idea of leavibg in open plaees hananas strongly dosed with moi'phine. Th'e monkeys could not resist sueh fruit temptingly placed within their reach. They ate and then slept. Thus they were collected without further trouble from trees and house-tops'.
