excellent pirogramme arranged for to-day •The Mamaku Athletic Sports Club whose annual fixture- is being held to-day should provide excellent sport from all points of view. Record entries for chopping events have been received, in one chop there being no fewer than 38 starters. Keen competition is expected and with such well-known names as W. J. Costello, Horne Bros., McCormick Bros., J. Larkin, A.. Fisher and I. Woodward, good finishes should result. In the running events, nominations include Griffin (Piopio), McQuarters (Te Awamutu) Blackburn (Darlington, Hamilton), Cunningham (Rotorua) Jones (Otorohanga), in addition to . many local competitors. Five horse events are scheduled, one being for girl riders of 16 and under. The. club is to be congratulated in encouraging these events. • A capable committee under the leadership of Mr. F. G. Reed, with Mr. R. U. Turner as a'ssistant, and Well known chopper in the person of Mr. W. J. Kilgour in charge of chopping events has left no stone unturned in order to make the day a success. A dance is to be- held in the Regent Theatre in the evening.
