NGONGOTAHA NOTES
INCREASING PRODUCTION AND GOOD STANDARD OF STOCK . THE FACTORY OUTPUT (From Our Own Correspondent) . There is no doubt that eventualiy the Ngongotaha district will equal the Waikato and other farming eentres for the production of butter, fat sheep, cattle and lambs. .. . Recently some fat lambs sent for freezing from this district were stated to be as good as any that have been handled at the works this season. A large number of first-class lambs and sheep have also been supplied to the butchers. Within the last two weeks, 19 trucks of fat sheep and lambs, eight trucks of fat cattle and over .2Q0 bacon pigs have been dispa.tclied from the Ngongotaha railway station,. .The season, from the farmers' point,, pf view, has been an exceptionally good one, as is shown by the. fine stacks of J hay, while the turnips and kumikumi jj crops are as good as anything in the h Bay of Plenty. « 1 Most of the hay has bepn cut and £ stacked, but there are still some late 1 and second crops to be cut. ' '/ \ The recent spell of wet weather hqs caught a few of the farmers, with hay cut, and they will be glad of a }'; few fine days to enable them to finish p.' off the hay making. A large amount r I of ensilage is also being made. t " /■ Usually, about the end of Januafy I • the quantity of cream supplied to the ' • local butter factory begins to dini- t; . inish, but so phenomenal has been the : . season, that at present there is ,no [« sign of ' the supply falling off. , Dur) ;i ing the last five years, the 'quantity hf ' cream supplied has doubled, and next j; ; year should show another subs'tantiai * increase as the Government Ngakuru j | scheme and the Waiariki Land Board! j| properties will both be more cohso'li- t dated and consequently carry more / stock. i Suggestions have been made' for re-.. modelling and enlarging the factory , to deal with an output of 2500 tons of butter per season. This ,may ap/ i • ! pear to be looking. a long. way ahpad, but having regard to the .area that has been brought under cuitivatipn- j . in the Rotorua district within the last 10 years it should not be many years* j! / before the factory will be handling a vast quantity of cream. - " f - District Jottings Quite a number of visitors have , .. j been at the baches and eamps around 'J'.' the Ngongotaha and Waitite streams ; ■' ■' during the sehool holiday, and soihe - ( very good fishing has rewarded the anglers. . - t; ' Although there has been a number f j of large mobs of sheep on the "road j . from Poverty Bay to the Waikato not ; many ( pass through the village,. ,as' ' .','i dr overs find it very much better' to. |J take the new road from Mourea tof, if Hamurana, and thence up the. Oturoa/ Road, thus avoiding the traffic that'l jl'.'j they would otherwise meet. t I* jil The Farmers' Auctioneering Com-| ''J' pany will hold its monthly sale or : Thursday next, and Mr. Stemb'ridge ' 1/ . the agent, expects a big yarding 0: " L * both sheep and cattle, round ahou ; ; 600 of the latter being entered. 'Th 5 tf; j Ngongotaha saies are very popula ,! • with buyers from all over the districi ! / | and as far distant as the Waikat 1 r!| attend regularly. : J
