The Government meteoroTonlst issued the following weather report and forecast iast nig-ht:— General situation:' A deep depression of the .westerly type is moving over the south Tasman Sea on to the South Island.Forecast: Wi'nds strong northerly to westerly, Teaching gaje forces, backing at times to south-westerly in southern districts. Weather: Unsettled with rain in districts with a westerly aspect south of Kawhia and over Otago and SouthIand; heavy falis likely in the western districts of the South Island, later rain extending to parts of the eastern a'nd northern districts. Foliowing are the barometer,, rriaxlmum and minimum thermometer, sun1 shine, and rainfall readings recorded at the Government Observation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Depart. ment for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday.
