ROWING CLUB

TRIAL FOURS COMPETITION The Opotiki Rowing Glub held a trial fonrs competition during the week-end, and some good races resnlted. Results : — First Race — B. O. Mansell (stroke) P. J. Pox (3), T. N. Hill (2), A. J. Kelly (bow) , D Debrecency (cox) v. T. J. Hiclcey (stroke), V. Mulhern (3), J. Pipe (2), L. Clark (bow), D. Pipe (cox). The crews got away to a good start. Mansell rowed a slightly faster stroke than Hickey and obtained a lead of one and a half lengths which he held to the finish. Seeond Race. — T. Selwyn (stroke), B. Wolfenden (3), C. Wolfenden (2), J. Donner (bow), D. Debreceny (cox) v. H. Burgess (stroke), B. Mulhern (3), J. B. McGuire (2), B. E. Aidney (bow), H. D. Pipe (cox). This was a most exciting race, Burgess obtaining a good lead, but nearing the winning post one of his crew had the misfortune to break his seat and Selwyn came up just in time to make the race a deadheat-. In the re-row the crews were even again, Selwyn finally winning by half a canvas. Final. — Selwyn v. Mansell. Selwyn got away beautifully and had nearly a length lead in a few yards, but Mansell rowed a quieker stroke and went straight past to win by nearly two lengths.
