LABOUR PARTY

NATIONAL SECRETARY 1 ADRESSES MEETING 8 IN ROTORUA 1 At a well attended meeting held on 1 Friday night, Mr. J. Thorn, secretary 1 of the New Zealand Labour Party I outlined the Lahour attitude toward 1 present day problems and the remed- 1 ies it proposed. Mr. Thorn, who was I introduced by the Mayor, Mr. T. Jack- I son, was given a very attentive hear- I ing and at the .conclusion of the meet- 1 ing, the following two resolutions I were placed on record. Mr. P. Cronin I was chairman of the meeting. 1 "That this representative meeting 1 of the electors of Rotorua tenders | sentiments of welcome to Mr. Thorn | personally, and in his official capac- I ity as secretary to the New Zealand I Labour Party. It has listened with 1 pleasure and satisfaction to his lucid I exposition of the social, industrial I and political condition into which this 1 Dominion has drifted, and to the re- I medial measures proposed by Labour. I It desires to express the belief that I the Lahour Party in Parliament, has j done its utmost to conserve the rights I and interests of the people. The meet- ] ing begs to thanlc Mr. Thorn for his j very able address." ] "That this representative meeting j of the electors of Rotorua desires to j express and pia:e on record its lu!l- j est sense of anxiety at the deplor- j able condition into which the Dominion has been allowed to drift finaiieially. It entirely disapproves of the destruction of the purchasing power of the public eervants and of the j family by permitting the undue and unwise restriction of social credit. It helieves that proper remedial measures are available, but that existing, powerful vested interests have prevented a resort thereto. Those measures ought now to reeeive the most serious consideration of every elector in the Dominion, and, beir.g convinced thereon, to determine to demand their adoption and, to act accordingly."
