\ Maintenance Orders Two maintenance cases came be- • fore Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., yesterday morning. In the first case T. G. Blakely was ordered to ptiy £9 15s, arrears forthwith, the warrant to be susp ended for one month. P. Hicks, who was £117 in arrears was ordered to pay the amount forthwith, in default six months' hard labour. Trafiic Breaches Several traffic cases came before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., yesterday. H. D. Salter, who operated his motor lorry without taking out a heavy traffic license was fined 10s and costs 10s. It was explained that his license expired in November and that the new license had n'ot been taken out on December 13. L. C. Little for failing to take out a license was fined 10s and costs 10s. James Stevenson, who pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerons driving was fined £1 and costs 13s. Order fdr Possessioti As a result of changes in tenancy, Mrs. Edith Harvey, of Arawa Street, was given notice hy the Public Trustee to vacate her shop, a lease of the premises having been given to E. Pratt and Co. Before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., yesterday, an appeal was made for an extension of time by one month in which to find other premises. It was explained that it had been practically impossible to secure another shop and Mrs. Harvey had deeided to build at Maketu. The extension was opposed by the Public Trustee. The court held that it could not interfere with private contracts and damages were piling up against other people. An order for possession forthwith would therefore be. given, with costs 3.0s 6d. Special Tourist Train A party of fifty American tourists making a Pacific cruise on the new oceanic liner Lurline, will arrive in Rotorua to-day at 2.40 o'clock by special train from Auckland on a brief visit to the town. The party will be met on arrival by the Rotorua agents for the tour, K. Motor Service Company, and after being conveyed to their hotels, will visit Whakarewarewa. The party will attend a Maori concert in the evening and will leave again next morning for Auckland. Leaving for Championships W. Whareaitu, a member of the Rotorua Amateur Swimming Club and South Auckland representative in the 100yds. championship e.vent will leave Rotorua this morning by car to compete in the New Zealand Amateur , Swimming championships, which commence at Napier on Saturday next. In recent try-outs in the Blue Bath, Whareaitu has been averaging a time of 59 seconds for the distance and is confidently expected to improve this time in salt water. He will be aecompanied to Napier by Mr. J. B. Perrin as coach and manager. High School Old Pupils At the monthly meeting of the executive of the Rotorua High School Old Pupils' Association, held on Monday, it was decided to hold the annual meeting at the High School on Tuesday, February 28. A dance is also to be held by the Association at the school on Friday, February 24. Theft at Motor Caitip A daring theft took place at Hillsdeen motoring camp, Tauranga, in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The pockets of four campers and an attache case were rifled. The small daughter of a camper was asleep in a car when she was awakened hy the thief. The ehild's cries gave the alarm and the intruder made off. Show Judges Mrs. T. E. Palmer and Mrs. A. B. Mollgard, of Te Puke, have been invited to officiate as judges at the Whakatane show, the former to judge flowers and cooking exliibits and the latter needlework. Ohau Channel Fishing Early morning fishing off the Ohau Channel mouth has been yielding good bags during the past two or three days. Two catches of eight and one of ten for a morning's fishing are reported, the fish averaging three pounds.
