RAILWAY TROUBLES

FRENCH LINES FAOE H.UGE addition to public debt. Proof that Britain and Canada, Ireland and the United States, aie not the only countries that are facing major problems is .afforded by the report of the deficits in the French railway companies' returns just issued. It is estimated that by the end of the present year these will have reached the enormous total of upwards of £76 000,000. The railways can not meet this, nor can the Government assist them with 'a loan for such an -amount. The sum will be added to France's public debt.— Montreal Star.
