english batsmen wear out queensland bowling PASS THE HOME TOTAL

— By Telegraph — Copyright).

Rec. Feb. 6, 7.50 p.m. Brisbane, February 6. When the Englishmen had 72 runs scored, the hatsmen were definitely superior against the Queensland attaek. This could hardly he said, however, of the marathon effort by Oxenham, whose play for inclusion in the test was seriously considered earlier in the season. None of the hatsmen was at home to him. The capture of Jardine and Sutcliffe represented heady howling. Sutcliffe gave the hest batting display. Jardine was painfully slow, making* only 34 in 132 minutes. Wyatt had a eharmed life, being missed three times behind the wicket before he reached 30. Hammond was moving along nicely when he fell to a brilliant catch in cover by Levy. The Englishmen were six wickets down for 169 at the tea adjournment. Half an hour after the tea adjournment Allen drove Bensted to the on, bringing up 203 in 236 minutes and passing Queensland's total of 201. Previously Paynter had lifted Oxenham into the outer field and there was a few minutes delay before the ball was reeovered from the crowd. The Allen and Paynter partnership provided the brightest batting of the innings, but with the appearance of the fast man with a new ball, the solid scoring "Aboriginal Express" Gilbert, secured his second wicket by getting Paynter, who had never been comfortable, lbw. Allen played a particularly sound knock and reached 50 in 98 minutes, including six fours and one six. Allen's partnership with Ames took full toll of the tired bowling and improved England's position. He was caught on the last ball of the day. The attendarfce was ne-arly 6000 and the gate totals £445.
