stock markets FRANKTON. The advanced rates for beef, sheep and pigs at the weekly stock sale at the Frankton yards last week were maintained at the sale to-day. There was an average yarding of beef and with a firin demand last week's rates were realised. Sheep came forward in good numbers and here also last week's improved rates were unaltered Pigs came forward in large numbers and fats and stores .again sold well. Beef. Heavy fat bullocks, £6 5s to £6 12s; lighter fat bullocks, £5 10s to £6; light fat bullocks, £4 18s 6d to £5 7s 6d; heavy fat cows, £4 5s to £4 12s 6d; lighter fat cows, £2 10s to £3 5s. Sheep: Heavy fat wethers, 15s to 16s 3d; lighter fat wethers, 13s to 14s 6d; fat wethers, 11s 6d to 12s 9a; heavy fat maiden ewes, 14s to 15s; lieavy fat ewes, 8s ,to 9s 6d; heavy fat lambs, 12s 8d to 14s 6d; lighter fat lambs, 11s 6d to 12s 6d. The Matamata Racing Club is the first club in the Auckland province to adopt the new system of totalisator betting, viz., separate straight out win and place (first, second and third) machines. At meetings in the southern part of the North, Island where the system has' been in use since Christmas it has found firm favour. The public were generally dubious for the first couple of races but directly they became used to it the system became most popular. The main points of the scheme are that the public can, when -there are five or more starters, bet either for a straight out win on one machine or for a place on the other.
