VIOLENT COLLISION
SERIOUS MOTOR SMASH AT * ! KOUTU LAST NIGHT A touring car driven by Mr. Mat Henderson, of Ngongotaha, was bad-, ly damaged in the vicinity of Koutu last evening, when it was pushed off the road and capsized by a collision with a heavy motor lorry. It is stat - ed that the driver of the lorry faileil to stop despite the obvious serious possibilities of the accident. j The smash oceurred on the Rotorua side of Koutu shortly after 10 o'clock when Mr. Henderson was proceeding to his home at Ngongotaha after attending the swimming* carni-v-al in the Blue Bath. He said that when passing the lorry, which appeared to be heavily laden and travelling at a good speed the side of Ivs car was struck, hy the overhang with terrifie force, causing it to leave the road and capsize, complet ely telescoping* the hood and twisting* the hodywork. Although consid' erably shaken he luckily escaped serious injury and on emerging from the wreckage was surprised to find that there was no sign of the drivei or his lorry.
