RAIN STILL FALLING HEAVILY OVER WIDE AREA SEVERE LIGHTNING

Melbourne, January 27. A rainstorm burst over the city late yesterday. The streets were flooded to a depth of two feet in low-lying parts. Lightning dislocated the electric systems in half a dozen suburban areas. In Sydney a further downpour drenched the metropolitan area last night. More rain and thunderstorms are expected to-day. The temperature yesterday reached 94.4, humidity 86.0, at eight in the evening. Reports from Brisbane state that the Ward and Lango Rivers are rising rapidly. Sheep have been removed from all the river frontages and low-lying country. Rain commenced again last night.
