A SWEEPING MAJORITY

(Press Assn.-

MAY FINISH INDEPENDENT OF ALL OTHER PARTIES _ t Ci J FALL IN 3ECURITIES

— By Telegraph — Copyright)

Dublin, Jannary 26. There is little doubt that the de Valeraites are assured of a majority enabling them to go ahead with their Republican policy. "An Phoblacht," the chief Republican' newspaper, boldly clajms, "Let's hear no ipore of bargains with England. Instead, our rallying cry must be 'On to the Republic'!" Mr. Sean O'Kelly, speaking at Dub- ' lin to-night, said the result of the election was going to' have a tremendous effect on the future of Ireland, and would make it self-sufficing with an industrial as well as an agricultural aim. Businessmen in Dublin are aghast at the result, which they regard as a calamity, but admit that it is useless to diguise the fact that de Valeraites' aggregate in the poll is greatly in excess of that of last election, and they may be easily independent of all other parties. The trend of the election is reflected on the Dublin Stock Exchange where there is heavy selling of local securities, such as Guinness. Ordinary Bank of Ireland stock, is seven points lower at 290, Guinness' shares on the London Stock Exchange sinirlarly fell from 85s to 78s 9d.
