RETURNS SHOW PURCHASES BY DOMINION BANKS

Wellington, Thursday. In a return released hy the Hon. C. E. Maemillan, it was shown that the amount of gold sold to the banks during i^he lafet year was 165,827 ounces, valued at £706,595. Although the figures showing the exports of gold from the Dominion for the period are not available they will approximate very closely the value of the gold sold| to the banks. The number of individuals selling gold increased from 79 two years ago to 1108 in December, 1932, and it is anticipated that this year's export of gold will be £1,000,000 or over.
