EAST COAST LINE

THE BISHOP'S EXPERIENCES The Rt. Rev. F. jsennett, Bishop of Aoteroa, recently held a serviee in the Church at Te Kaha. He travelled from Te Kaha to Raukokore where he was stranded owing to the rivers being very high. In ofder that he might return to Te Kaha with his car a pontoon was huilt and a large crowd of Maoris helped with ropes. Unfortunately the ropes broke half way across the river and the car started down stream. When the car was finally rescued and brought to the bank all petrol had to be emptied out of the tank and the car towed around the paddocks. Owing to very heavy rain at Te Kaha, many campers were swamped out and Mr. Cato, master of the native school, opened the school. One time just on 30 people camped inside. The tennis courts down at Te Kaha have been thrown op'en to the visiting campers some of whom are from Auckland and Wellington. Some Te Kaha tennis players are going to Hicks Bay shortly to play for the Lady Ngata Cup and some are coming to Opotiki on Saturday. Fish have been so plentiful at Te

Kaha that local fishermen, instead of staying out in their boats all day, have had to pull in to shore every two or three hours to deposit their hauls. The Motu Road is broken by a slip which will take two days to shift. Serviee cars had to turn back on reaching the slip and use the Waioeka Iioad. Able Speaker Mr. James Thorn, who is acknowledged to be one of the ablest speakers in the Dominion, will address a Labour Party meeting in the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening next, Jan-* uary 31, at 8 o'clock. The mayor (Mr. J. M. Thompson) has kindly consented to occupy the chair. During his visit to Opotiki Mr. Thorn will also confer with the unemployment committee.
