PRESS OPINIONS
FIRM STAND APPRECIATED Rec. January 24, 7.10 p.m. London, January 23. Arthur Gilligan, writing in the Daily Chronicle thinlcs that more than likely the remaining tests will not be played. It would be very much better, he said, if they were cancelled than to have glorified dog fights at Brisbane and Sydney, which would only engender the bitterest feeling with the spirit of cricket completely forgotten. The Daily Chronicle says: "If the feeling is as vehement as the Board of Control contends, then the only way out would be to cancel the remaining matches and recall the team. It is a very deplorabl© way and the onus of demanding it lies with Australia. Oth er newspapers and critics- support Marylebone's reply and congrat-* ulate the committee. on expressing itself so forcibly. P. G. Fender declares that he was glad Marylebone had not only expressed faith in the English cricket team's sportsmanship but added that there is no evidence that their confidence was misplaced.
