bay of islands MODERATE FIELD S CARDED IN KAWAKAWA HACK FIXTURE BEARING ON FUTURE RACING

Alth'ough the class is nothing very wonderful at Kawakawa on Saturday, the old-established Bay of Islands meeting usually provides a bit of a j liire on future runners at meetings like Matamata and Rotorua since in the minor events much the same class of horse is^ catered for. * * * * Saturday will commence with the Hokianga Plate of 54 furlongs under maiden conditions and though so far they have not broken their maiden 'status there are one or two fairly well-known names amongst the acceptors. Keith Hall has several minor placings whilst though Minster did not notch a win' at Waipapakauri he showed a bit of pace. Miss'Monui and Riponui are promising whilst Ornamental must break it soon. Two which are a bit allied and will be coupled are Bush Lawyer and Bayfield the latter being a promising colt if in condition. Yery open with fancies taking a wide range. Favourites' may be Keith Hall Ornamental Bayfield-Bush Lawyer Bkt. from. — HOKIANGA PLATE of £40; 5 4 furlongs. L. Suzanne, K. Theory, Valador, Minster, Bischoff, Keith Hall, Mater, Miss -M"onui, Pirimint, Riponui, Mohau, Ornamental, Bush Lawyer, Bayfield, 8.0; Vibrant, Wharemanea, 7.10. * * * There is a distinctly better class engaged irf the Kaikohe Hack Six including recent winners in Radiant Sun, Black Marlin, Blue Grey and Hone Heke, all of whom have earned brackets within the last month. Frothblower who lumped 10.10 into a.placa at Waipapakauri has only 9.3 here and on that may be hard. Gup has an advantage in the burden of 101b. Black Marlin is also in the Cup and the seven and either this or the seven should suit him best. Monanui is a fair youngster and Blue Grey is consistent having only once been out of a place in the last six starts but in ragtime company. Hone Heke is useful but little is known of Knigbt Theory or Creation though the latter has run a few times unplaced. Providing they face the barrier the support may be forthcoming for Black Marlin Blue Grey Monanui from. — KAIKOHE HACK HANDICAP, Of £40; 6 furlongs. Theory, Creation 7.0. * * * * In the Northland Counties Handicap, a race of 6f. with residential qualifications, there are seven carded of whom all are elsewhere engaged except Gainful, who by the way is a brother to Zoom, one of the most promising jumpers ever seen out at Ellerslie who was expected to win a Great Northern but broke a fetlock on the flat training. If Gainful is as good as his relative it is all over but he has not previously started and may be too green. NORTHLAND COUNTIES HANDICAP of £40*; 6 furlongs. Considering Teels ran so prominently in the Auckland Cup and won the Te Awamutu Cup from far better horses the 9.7 she is called upon to carry is not oppressive. Frothblower who has ' carried some big burdens at other times is better treated with 10.5.
