ACROSS S. ATLANTIC FAMOUS FRENCH AIRMAN TAKES FOURTEEN HOURS IN TIME FOR LUNCH

London, January 16. : , A triple-engined, 12-ton aeroplane, the Rainbow, piloted by Captain Jean Mermoz, the famous French airman, with a crew, of six, including the eonstructor, Rene Couzinet, left St. Louis, Senegal, French West Africa, at 4.48 a.m. for bPort Natal, Brazil. The pnrpose of the fiight is to demonstrate the practibility of a regular South Atlantie service. A wireless message at 6.10 a.m. said:> "All well." , . • A later message from Brazil states that the 'plane arrived at Port Natal at 1.40 p.m. (eastern standard time). The machine had averaged more than 140 miles an hour, setting a new record of 14 hotirs 2 minutes for th'e 1962-mile crossing, east to west M. Mermoz and his party are the first to have been able to have brealtfast in Africa and lunch in Blazil.
