WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
OTARA BRANCH HOLD MEETING ON FRIDAY A well attended meeting of the Otara Women's Institute, at • which Mrs. Morice presided, was held at the school on Friday. The meeting was opened by reciting the women's creed followed by the singing of the Institute song. A roll call, "Grandma's Days or Ours" was well responded to, while full appreciation of our many present day privileges and conveniences, as well as regrets at the passing of the 'plaeid and unruffled natures developed in the by-gone days of little. excitement, were voiced. A demonstration of Pewter work, both painted and relief, given by Mrs. P. Clark, of Opotiki, was very much enjoyed. i Songs were rendered by little Ruth 'Vanstone and Mary Riddell (Hamilton), and recitations were given by Audrey Hedley, Grace Brown, Kathleen Lambert and David and Neil McMillan. After afternoon tea had been served by the hostesses, Mesdames Brown and Redpath, voting was undertalcen in a competition for articles made from flour bags. Some very handsome work in both dyed and embroidered bagging was shown, Mrs. McMillan winning first prize and Mrs. Millar second. The meeting then closed with a vote of thanks to Mrs. Clark and the hostesses, and the singing of the National Anthem. Mrs. McDonald played the accompaniment. The parting gift from Mrs. Chauncy Black to the institute, a brass table bell, was used by the president for the first time. ,
